Description
Lily of the valley is a flowering plant in the same family as asparagus commonly cultivated as a garden ornamental. The small, bell-shaped, white flowers, which symbolize the renewal of happiness, are very popular in wedding bouquets, such as those carried by Princess Grace Kelly and Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. Also known as Our Lady’s Tears, lily of the valley is associated with tears shed by Mary at the crucifixion of Jesus. The plant is also called May Bells in reference to its bloom time.
The dried leaf and flower is used in potpourri or herb pillows. Due to the presence of cardiac glycosides, internal use of this herb is not recommended without the guidance of a qualified health care practitioner. decorative May be used as filler in herbal pillows.
