Fuller’s Earth, also called Multani Mitti, Multani Clay and Fuller?s Clay, is a natural material excavated from the earth?s crust. Because of its concentration of minerals and salts, it is thought to be beneficial for the skin and hair. Fuller’s Earth is the main ingredient in dry shampoo and also in body powders. Mixed with water to make a paste, Fuller’s Earth is applied as a facial mask or body pack, usually in combination with ground herbs and a few drops of essential oil. Fuller’s Earth is a clay mined from the earth’s crust that typically contains a complex of minerals, including quartz, silica, iron, calcite and dolomite.

At one time, this material was used in apothecaries in compounding pills. Because this material is highly absorbent, it is used to spot “dry clean” fabrics and is an ingredient in dry shampoos.
