Description
Chipotle is a type of smoked jalape?o pepper that gets its name from ?chilpoctli,? a word in the Nahuatl language of the native peoples of Central Mexico that means ?smoked chili.? In terms of ?heat,? chipotle has a relatively mild rating with a range of 3,000-10,000 heat units on the Scoville scale. Powdered chipotle gives a warm, mildly spicy, smoky flavor to main dishes as well as marinades, sauces and salsas The warm, smoky flavor of chipotle powder is deliciously addictive. The spice is used to liven up salsas, marinades, Tex-Mex-style soups and chili. Chipotle powder also makes an excellent rub for grilled or roasted chicken, pork ribs or even a beef brisket. It’s also a great “surprise” seasoning for vegetables and egg dishes. Add to bean and rice dishes, soups, stews, chili, sauces and condiments. Chipotle is also used to make salsas and a meat marinade called adobo. Adds smoky flavor to a variety of foods.
