Description
Spirulina powder is obtained from a free-floating aquatic organism commonly referred to as a blue-green algae, although it?s actually a type of cyanobacteria. This simply means that it manufactures energy using photosynthesis just like plants, despite being blue in color. As a rich source of fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and various oxidants, spirulina powder is added directly to foods or is encapsulated as a dietary supplement. Add directly to fruit and vegetable smoothies and soups. Spirulina powder is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. Spirulina contains all of the essential fatty acids necessary for the body to function. This is what is called a complete protein. It is an excellent addition to a vegetarian diet because it provides so much of the essential protein. One of the few plant sources of vitamin B12, a single teaspoon of spirulina contains more B12 than liver. Spirulina is also a rich source of amino acids, antioxidants, protein, calcium and iron.
